Salute to Service 1LT James Earl Jones

Salute to Service 1LT James Earl Jones

Before he was Darth Vader, Mufasa, and a lengthy list of characters that span almost 70 years, he was a Soldier. James Earl Jones graduated in 1953 from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in Drama. During his tenure at the University of Michigan he joined the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lt into the United States Army in 1953 after the Korean war had ended. He reported to Fort Moore to attend Infantry Officers Basic Course, and then Ranger school, where he received his tab. That’s right, Darth Vader was a Ranger. Serving with HHC 38th RCT, they established a cold-weather training command at the former Camp Hale near Leadville, Co. Jones was promoted to 1LT before his discharge. He served from 1953-1955.

Mr. Jones, as an avid Star Wars fan, I want to thank you for your service. You have become such an iconic character that you are still referenced to this day. You have inspired generations of Americans to serve and take an interest in the arts; we are grateful for that.

What does the redneck Jedi say?

Luke, I am your father.. and your Cousin.
